Board Reduces Natural Gas Rates
Natural gas rates in Humboldt will decrease approximately 13% in February according to General Manager Stan Little. The Humboldt Board of Public Utilities approved the rate reduction at the January meeting. Although the utility had incrementally purchased a significant portion of winter gas prior to November 1, the mid-winter decline in prices helped to lower the weighted average cost of gas, Little said. This mid-winter reduction should offer some relief to our customers. According to Little, the reduction will take effect February 1 and remain in effect at least three months.
At the end of April the Board will review the situation and make any necessary corrections. Residential gas prices inside city limits will go from $11.50 to $10.00 per mcf. The $1.50 reduction will apply to all rate levels, Little said.
